Restarting your computer

As cliché as it sounds, there are many times when a simple restart is all it takes. However, when problems keep coming back,

Resetting the Power Manager on Intel based Macs

For portables with a removable battery:

  1. Shut down, remove the battery and disconnect the power cord.
  2. Hold the power button down for 5 seconds
  3. Turn your computer back on with a single press of the power button.

For portables without a removable battery:

  1. Shut down, and make sure a good power supply is connected.
  2. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
  3. Turn your computer back on with a single press of the power button.

 iMacs, Mac Pro’s, Xserve’s and Mac Mini’s:

  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Unplug the computer’s power cord.
  3. Wait fifteen seconds.
  4. Attach the computer’s power cord.
  5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
